THE VALUES

ULTIVATE CREDENCE

PSYCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT

Actualisation of the self and our communities

In Motivation and Personality (1954), Abraham Maslow states, "What a man can be, he must be". Maslow's quote refers to self-actualization, which is the highest level or stage in his model of human motivation: the 'Hierarchy of Needs'. To Maslow, self-actualization is the ability to become the best version of oneself. Ultivate practitioners are motivation by the notion that as we become more individuated, self actualized humans, so will our communities become more integrated and less fragmented. It's  fundamentally a bottom up approach to positively impacting our society. By seeking to become "whole" humans, rather than prefect ones, we cultivate more pleasant and actualised societies.

HONESTY

To one self and those around us

Honesty is the human quality of communicating and acting truthful and with fairness, as best one is able. It is related to truth as a value. This includes listening, reasoning and any action in the human repertoire — as well as speaking.

Superficially, honesty means simply, stating facts and views as best one truly believes them to be. It includes both honesty to others, and to oneself and about ones own motives and inner reality.

Honesty is an important element in interpersonal relationships, particularly intimate relationships. Social perception of dishonesty can seriously undermine judgements of likeability and social attraction, leading to distrust and realtionship impairment.

CURIOSITY

To one self and those around us

Curiosity is any natural inquisitive behaviour, evident by observation in many animal species, and is the emotional aspect of living beings that engenders explorationinvestigation and learning.

CRITICAL THINKING

Accepting Patients Since 2000

Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. The key critical thinking skills are: analysis, interpretation, inference, explanation, self-regulation, open-mindedness, and problem-solving. Finally, the oldest, and still the most powerful, teaching tactic for fostering critical thinking is Socratic teaching. In Socratic teaching we focus on giving students questions, not answers. We model an inquiring, probing mind by continually probing into the subject with questions. The Socratic method is a form of cooperative argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions.

Working Page: Famous Quote

Did you know that if stress is left to fester, it can lead to functional impairment or mental illness?

Overwhelming stress can disturb the way we relate to work, others and ourselves. Unmanaged stress can manifest in social isolation, depression and even suicidal ideation.

Don't allow the quality of your social and vocational life to become impaired by unmanaged stress. A psychologist can help by finding the source of the issue. Your Ultivate psychologist will create a holistic intervention plan that uses psychological science to address the cause of the distress and help you get back to living your best life.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SCIENCE

The science of psychology benefits society and enhances our lives.

Working Page: Text

Psychological science concerns the scientific study of human behaviour and

mental processes. A modern psychologist uses psychological science to shed light on what is causing your distress.

The Ultivate clinician is a science-based holistic practitioner. This means your therapist is trained in the biopsychosocial model.

Research methods, psychometrics, statistics, data analytics and uses the scientific method to create and test hypotheses concerning behaviour and processes underlying behaviour. This helps your psychologist evaluate, understand and use psychometric tools to measure intellectual, behavioural and emotional states.

Holistic practice means that your psychologist will examine the role that environmental factors such as culture, workplaces, biology, childhood history, relationships play on your behaviour, mood and potential.

An Ultivate clinician specialises in interpersonal and communication skills and uses counselling principles and core areas of cognitive and behavioural psychology to help you or your team with personal, social or work-related difficulties.

They apply psychological theories and evidence-based strategies to

address matters relating to human psychological health.

NEUROPLASTICITY

Practice, practice and and more practice!

Neuroplasticity is a modern discovery in neuroscience. It refers to the brain’s capacity to transform itself by creating new neural connections in response to learning, behavioural modifications, environmental changes, or compensation for injury or disease.

The Ultivate clinician integrates neuroscientific concepts and practices such as:

  • Use it or lose it

  • Use it and improve it

  • Specificity

  • Repetition matters

  • Intensity matters

  • Time matters

  • Salience matters

  • Age matters

Neuroscientists have discovered that not only can the brain change, but it is also constantly changing! We can support the changing brain by making small alterations to the way we think and the things we do daily. The more we practice, the more results we receive. The therapeutic relationship between you and your psychologist is understood as the most important catalyst for client change. It creates fertile conditions for restoring the damages created by stress and supporting the growth of new neural pathways fundamental to psychological health.

NEURODIVERSITY

A movement for those who choose to celebrate their neurobiological differences!

The neurodiversity affirming paradigm suggests that, because neurological differences are normal and have existed throughout human history, they should be respected, understood, and supported. This paradigm views conditions such as autism and attention deficits, as naturally occurring psychological phenomena in human neurobiology. These processing differences, in a neurotypical world, can be perceived and experienced as a disability, where a client’s style of functioning varies according to how supportive their environment is or how equipped the individual is with their neurodivergent needs. Instead of looking for ways to change ourselves or others, we look for attitudes and behaviour that can be celebrated and encouraged. A strengths-based approach to neurodiversity is designed to integrate and build on existing theories of positive psychology, positive psychiatry, multiple intelligences, and developmental psychology and to apply them to devise strengths-based assessments and interventions for neurodiverse individuals. In this paradigm, a very strong person-centred approach is used, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy strategies alongside personality development principles.

INITIAL CONSULTATION FEE
$245.40 PER 75-MINS

With Ultivate, clinical services can benefit from multiple rebates* at the same time.

Initial appointments are conducted in person or online. They run for about 75 minutes and cost $245.40. Follow-up sessions are billed at $195.40 and run for 50 minutes. Group interventions are billed at $95.40 per 50-minute session, and Ultivate's 10-week programs are billed at $945 per participant. Below you will find information about available *rebates, which can help reduce the original fee if this is necessary for you.

Initial consultations are a thorough clinical biopsychosocial assessment session that provides important information to help us create the most suitable program for your psychological health needs. This  session includes:

  • A detailed review of your history, concerns and all related symptoms

  • Digital intake form

  • Discussion of therapeutic objectives

  • Formulation and hypotheses generation regarding assumptions and coping strategies

  • Discussion around appropriate treatment models

  • Psychometric tools to assess personality, severity of distress and other symptoms

  • Options to access group model and collaborative approaches

  • Clinical note-taking

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Short-term and long-term models are offered. Short-term therapies focus on how you can improve your life now, focusing on issues you are experiencing in your day-to-day life; long-term therapies look more at the past, helping you understand both yourself and how your past may affect things you do today. Short-term therapy normally lasts from 5 - 20 sessions or three-to-five months.

How many sessions you will benefit from depends on the complexity of the presenting issue/s. However, generally speaking, we have developed a clear outlook of the foreseeable future by the fourth session. Therefore, your fourth appointment tends to review your therapeutic needs and outcomes. At this point, we can determine whether you feel ready to move forward without your psychologist. Some clients tend to move to fortnightly intervention or monthly check-ins during this stage. However, most clients are ready to finish the treatment by their 10th appointment. Of course, a percentage of individuals still stay on board with a more longitudinal approach.

*With Ultivate, you can claim multiple rebates at the same time.
