In our family home, Saturday brunches have become almost sacred experiences – moments we count on to connect, enrich, and sharpen each other after our big work weeks.
Every now and then, we are honoured to open this space to exquisite guests who bring their brilliance, their humanity, and their curiosity to the table. This weekend, that guest was none other than Dr. Omar Eduardo Rodríguez.
What unfolded was not just a brunch, but hours of energising conversation at the intersection of brain science, psychology, robotics, AI, ethics, eros, and logos, conversations that stand at the foundation of Ultivate Pty Ltd.
These shared meals remind me why I do what I do: to remain enriched as a clinician, co-founder and director of the Ultivate Company, to keep giving from a place of renewal rather than depletion, and to show that professional life can be built on flourishment, connection, and organic growth.
At Ultivate Pty Ltd, even the smallest rituals – like brunch – become part of the larger picture: creating flourishing professional experiences and disrupting outdated systems to reshape Australian psychological health, one gentle turtle step at a time.

A Meeting of Minds
Associate Professor of Robotics and AI, Dr. Thierry Peynot, and Dr. Omar Eduardo Rodríguez – a bilingual physician whose journey has spanned Australian medicine, psychiatry, economics, aviation, and even space sciences – recently sat down for a full Saturday of conversations that could only be described as groundbreaking.
Dr. Rodrígues’s trajectory is astonishing: from the Neuropsychiatry Unit at Melbourne Hospital to NASA’s Fatigue Countermeasures Group, to serving as Crew Health & Neuropsychiatry Officer in a Mars analog mission, and being selected as a Scientific Astronaut Candidate. His research spans neurodegenerative diseases, neuropsychiatry in space, and the future of human adaptation beyond Earth.
Alongside Dr. Peynot’s pioneering leadership in Australian space robotics and AI in Queensland, these dialogues moved beyond résumés and achievements. They entered the deeper territory, exploring what it means to live at the dawn of the mental health technology era.
That two such high-impact and busy individuals chose to open their Saturday for this exchange says something powerful: The future of mental health, technology, and human flourishing depends on these conversations – multidisciplinary, ethical, and profoundly human.
A true meeting of minds.
The Bamboo Reminder
Amongst all his knowledge and remarkable experiences, Dr. Omar Eduardo Rodríguez left us with a powerful reminder – one that now shapes how I see Ultivate’s first seven years of R&D development.
He reminded us of the bamboo. How it grows in silence, underground, invisible to most eyes. For years, no one would even know that bamboo is growing there – except those who planted the seed and tend the soil. They keep it nourished, protected from obstacles, trusting that its time will come.
And then, when the moment is right, bamboo explodes into visible growth. It shoots high and uninhabited toward the sky, steadfast through wind and storms, because it has spent years digging deep and developing roots that are hard to shake.
This is Ultivate.
We are in the root-building years – unseen by many, but deeply preparing, strengthening, and establishing the foundation. In start-up psychology, roots are critical. Too often, the modern entrepreneurial world is dominated by scale-fast or get-rich-quick models. These models create a serious disservice to the modern human: they strip away the natural rhythm of developing mastery, skill, and integrity in one’s field.
At Ultivate, we take a different path. We are reviving the professional – what it truly means to embody professionalism, not just as a title, but as a lived practice grounded in history, anthropology, psychology and ethics. Our anthropological research shows that the professional was once a figure of depth, discipline, and contribution to society – not simply a participant in a market economy, but a custodian of knowledge and ethical standards of the modern societies.
This is the professional identity we are reclaiming. Ultivate is cultivating now – patiently, intentionally – through conversations that matter, communities that sustain, ethics that guide, and enriched multidisciplinary knowledge that expands human potential.
These are the roots. They are not glamorous, but they are essential. And when the time comes, they will support not just growth, but the kind of resilient, meaningful, and flourishing expansion that endures storms and seasons.
The Foundations of a 20-Year Roadmap
Since first launching the Ultivate Psychological Health Initiative in 2017, my professional life has been so consistently and deeply enriched by conversations like these. They have become foundational for Ultivate’s early development, energising and expansive.
As Ultivate’s first clinician, it is an honour to keep learning in this way. These exchanges keep me enriched and giving, rather than falling into the burnout, resentment, or distress that so many modern clinicians experience. Too often, outdated systems not only box in the client – they also box in the hard-working clinician.
At Ultivate Pty Ltd, a company co-founded this July 2025, we are breaking that mould. We are disrupting the system one gentle, organic, turtle step at a time – building a model where psychological health is not just about survival, but about flourishment, enrichment, and the future of professional life itself.
This article marks the early onset of phase three of our Ultivate 20-year roadmap: to continue grounding Ultivate in rich conversations, multidisciplinary collaborations, and rituals of renewal that remind us that psychological health is not only a profession – it is a way of living, giving, and co-creating the future.
At Ultivate Psychological Health, we believe the future of flourishing societies depends on the sustainability of professionals, leaders, and creatives. If you are ready to step beyond outdated systems, burnout, and box-ticking, and instead cultivate mastery, enrichment, and lasting impact — we invite you to join us.
